Project Description

North elementary school completed an energy and efficiency project with the goal of reducing energy and maintenance costs. The project included the design and upgrade of mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, electrical and technology systems. Energy improvements were completed in a condensed construction schedule during the summer when school was not in session. Due to the condensed schedule the contractors worked double shifts to complete the projects on time and within budget. Energy saving technologies and system upgrades include the following:

  • High Efficiency Chiller with Variable Primary Pumping Design
  • Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) with Energy Recovery Wheels
  • Dehumidification
  • Displacement Ventilation Units
    • Quiet Operation
    • Direct Delivery of outdoor air to occupants
  • Fabric ductwork (gym)
    • Durable – No denting from gym equipment or students
    • Washable and resists dust collection
    • Integral diffusers and balancing devices
  • Building Automation Controls
  • Electrical Service Upgrades
  • Pool
  • Electrical Lighting upgrades
  • Occupancy sensors for control of lighting and HVAC control of spaces
  • Daylight harvesting of natural lighting to reduce electrical consumption
  • High-efficiency motors with variable frequency drives
  • Full cut-off optics on exterior lighting to reduce light pollution
  • Technology Upgrades – Voice/Data communications
  • Life Safety Upgrades
